We have been working on the concept design for the conversion of a semi-derelict stone building into a unique dwelling.
This project presents several challenges, including planning constraints and flood risk, which we are addressing in collaboration with a planning consultant and a flood risk specialist to ensure compliance with relevant policies.
Located in a rural setting within a floodplain, the site required an innovative approach.
To mitigate flood risks, we have elevated the main living space to the first floor. The existing stone structures will be preserved and repurposed into functional spaces, while a contemporary first-floor addition will float above the historic barn, cantilevering outward to maximize views of the surrounding countryside.
The design strikes a balance between tradition and modernity, creating a bold yet harmonious dialogue between the old and the new.
