RA Architects were contacted by Pontprennau Medical Centre 15 years after they had opened their doors, with the aim of adding extra consulting rooms and making use of underutilised areas of the surgery. There was a large atrium area which was of low architectural quality and a poor internal layout and a lack of consulting and treatment rooms. There was also a need to allow for wheelchair access to the first-floor rooms. A new floor was hung in the atrium expand the number of consulting rooms, whilst a new staircase and lift provided better access for all. This project required the use of all 3 stages of our work: Concept Design & Planning, Detailed Design & Tender and Project Admin & Construction.
