At what stage should I be looking to talk to an architect?

Architectural technologist Dominic Phillips gives his thoughts…

You should begin thinking about the need for an architect at the strategic definition stage (RIBA Plan of Works Stage 0). For example, you may have an extension in mind, but you are unsure if it would work.

Stage 0 is particularly important for you to set the tone of the project. At this point, we can define the project scope together, discuss potential design issues and ascertain the desired project outcome.

Getting in touch with an RIBA accredited architect will give you the best quality and knowledge to help shape your vision. They will advise you on policies such as permitted development rights, and will help you consider matters such as party wall agreements, as well as many other hurdles they can help you get over on the way.”
