Richard Andrews, Principal Architect
Richard Andrews' 21-year career in the construction industry has given him a wealth of practical experience which, together with his architectural expertise and unswerving commitment to each project, represents a particularly winning combination for his clients.
Richard began his career with Andrews Gay & Partners, Barry in 1992 and gained an ONC in Construction. In 2007 he became fully qualified as an architect, and maintains this with professional membership of the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects). He has experience in many sectors spanning Education, Residential, Extra Care, Office, Leisure and Retail. Richard has worked for such reputable firms as Chapman Taylor, Boyes Rees, Atkins Global and Ainsley Gommon.
Lewis Shaw, Associate
Lewis wanted to become an architect after becoming inspired by the Gaudi architecture in Barcelona in his teenage years.
During his Part I architecture studies at Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford, Lewis researched and completed a key portfolio project: a sustainable technology research building designed for the location of a disused colliery in the South Wales valleys.
Since joining the team at Richard Andrews Architects, Lewis has worked on the competition winning entry for the waterfront activities centre at Barry, Pwynt Hwylio. He has also produced detailed drawings for two Welsh rugby club schemes and worked on a number of new houses and residential extensions.
Lewis is on course to become a fully qualified and Chartered Architect by working towards his part II qualification at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth Mid-Wales along side working at RA Architects.

Cai Thomas, Architectural Assistant
Cai has recently completed his Part 1 architectural studies at Oxford Brookes School of Architecture. In his second year, Cai was fortunate enough to be awarded the Reginald Cave Travel Scholarship. This allowed him to undertake a fortnight of independent travel to complete research for his dissertation on architect Lina Bo Bardi and her work with indigenous crafts.
During his studies, Cai enjoyed creating mixed media renderings to describe his designs. This technique combined his skills for line drawing and proficiency in design programs such as; AutoCAD, Rhino 3D and Photoshop.
Whilst completing work experience with other practises, Cai discovered how rewarding it can be to conceive housing schemes and design the everyday spaces in which people will spend so much of their lives. Cai’s attention to the quality of domestic architecture is one of the features he has brought to RA Architects.
Antonella Mariani, Architectural Assistant
Antonella completed her studies in Italy and became an Architect in 2015. Her master dissertation studied the ex-paper mill redevelopment in Rome and the relationship between abandoned industrial areas and the surrounding city.
She has always shown a strong passion for architecture and design, she also has a particular interest in eco-building and residential development.
Antonella has experience working with several graphical and rendering software packages.
Antonella has been working as architectural assistant in Wales for the past year and aims to make full use of her skills and experience with Richard Andrews Architects.
Hannah Richards, Administrative Assistant
Hannah looks after the marketing, PR and social media responsibilities for the company and also assists Katya and Richard in the administrative running of the business. With a BA (hons) in Drama and English, Hannah has spent a vast amount of time working in the watch and jewellery industry and has accumulated a great wealth of customer service experience.
Away from the office Hannah is a keen photographer with an interest in documentary street work.
Seb Davies, Architectural Assistant
Seb is the newest member of our team and was inspired to become an architect by the grandness and elegance of gothic cathedrals. Seb gradually fell in love with the creativity and freedom of design, combined with the reward of overcoming challenges. Seb has just completed Part 1 architectural studies at the Welsh School of Architecture in Cardiff, throughout which he enjoyed making models and learning new software programes as tools for design. In particular he enjoyed learning to code automated, parametric design in 3DS Max.
Over the course of several study trips throughout Europe, Seb has learnt about different cultures and their styles of design. A particular favourite was the timber vernacular of the Vorarlberg in Austria. Seb has worked on projects from housing schemes to community centres and most recently the redevelopment of a water sports centre in Falmouth.
