In 2007 he became fully qualified as an architect, and maintains this with professional membership of the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects). He has experience in many sectors spanning Education, Residential, Extra Care, Office, Leisure and Retail. Lewis Shaw, Associate – Part 2

Lewis wanted to become an architect after becoming inspired by the Gaudi architecture in Barcelona in his teenage years. He completed his Part 1 architecture studies at Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford, and went on to gain his Part 2 Professional Diploma in Architecture and the Centre for Alternative Technology, in Machynlleth Mid Wales and has a gained a strong grounding in sustainable architecture as a result of this unique experience.

Since joining the team at Richard Andrews Architects, Lewis has worked on the competition winning entry for the waterfront activities centre at Barry, Pwynt Hwylio. He has also produced detailed drawings for two doctors surgery schemes, large social housing schemes and worked on a number of new houses and residential extensions.

Katya Kirjanova, Administration Assistant

Katya handles all the administrative duties and assists Richard Andrews Architects with invoicing, payroll and human resources.

Her previous work included administrative support at one of the world’s leading manufacturers of flexible packaging and labels. Prior to that, she gained valuable customer service skills while working at the world-class resort in the outskirts of Newport.

Cai Thomas, Architectural Assistant

Cai completed his Part 1 architectural studies at Oxford Brookes School of Architecture. In his second year, Cai was fortunate enough to be awarded the Reginald Cave Travel Scholarship. This allowed him to undertake a fortnight of independent travel to complete research for his dissertation on architect Lina Bo Bardi and her work with indigenous crafts.

During his studies, Cai enjoyed creating mixed media renderings to describe his designs. This technique combined his skills for line drawing and proficiency in design programs such as; AutoCAD, Rhino 3D and Photoshop.

Whilst completing work experience with other practises, Cai discovered how rewarding it can be to conceive housing schemes and design the everyday spaces in which people will spend so much of their lives. Cai’s attention to the quality of domestic architecture is one of the features he has brought to RA Architects.

Antonella Mariani, Architectural Assistant

Antonella completed her studies in Italy and became an Architect in 2015. Her master dissertation studied the ex-paper mill redevelopment in Rome and the relationship between abandoned industrial areas and the surround city.
